Standing Up for the Whole Community
ALbert Thunder For chief 2026
VISION &
PRIORITIES
Our Nation deserves leadership that represents every member with fairness, strength, and accountability.
A Chief and Council are elected to serve all members:
-
Whether you live in the community or away
-
Whether you are connected by family or not
Every member matters.
Who will stand up for the whole community?
Leadership is about responsibility — to every member, every family, and every future generation.
01
Peace & Community Safety
My priority is to create a community where:
-
Children can safely play outside
-
Families feel secure
-
Teachers and professionals choose to stay and invest in our future
A peaceful community creates opportunity for everyone.
02
Education: Taking Back Control
We have already proven we can do this through our Health Program. Now, we move forward with:
-
Direct funding agreements with education partners
-
Local control over how education is delivered
-
Programs that reflect our culture, identity, and future goals
03
Child & Family: Prevention First
Our goal has always been clear — keep our children in our community.
To achieve this, we must:
-
Invest in real prevention programs
-
Strengthen family supports
-
Address challenges before they become crises
Strong families create strong communities.
04
Social Development: Creating Purpose
Our people deserve more than programs — they deserve opportunity.
We will focus on:
-
Real employment pathways
-
Skills development
-
Building confidence and independence
Because when people have purpose, communities thrive.
05
Economic Leadership & Opportunity
Whitefish Lake needs leadership that understands how to balance economic growth and environmental responsibility.
As Chief, I will:
-
Negotiate effectively with surrounding industries
-
Protect our lands and resources
-
Ensure our Nation benefits from development
Our businesses should be thriving — and under the right leadership, they will be.
06
Leadership That Understands the System
The world operates through Acts, policies, and regulations.
A strong Chief must understand these systems and use them to:
-
Protect the Nation
-
Secure funding
-
Create long-term opportunities
06
Recreation & Athlete Support
Recreation is more than activities — it builds confidence, discipline, and strong community connections.
-
Support youth in sports, arts, and cultural activities
-
Provide fair and transparent athlete funding
-
Create safe and consistent recreation programs in the community
Our athletes represent Whitefish with pride.
They deserve support every step of the way.

MEET ALBERT
THUNDER
Albert Thunder was born in High Prairie, Alberta, and raised in Atikameg (Whitefish Lake First Nation). Born in March 1970, he is the youngest of 11 children to Henry and Evelyn Thunder. His roots, values, and lifelong connection to the community have shaped the leader he is today.
Albert is a devoted family man, married to his high school sweetheart. Together, they have raised three daughters and are proud grandparents to six grandchildren. His commitment to family reflects the same care and responsibility he brings to his work and leadership.

His experience spans both business and governance, giving him a well-rounded understanding of economic development and operational leadership.
Albert served as Chief beginning in 2018, where he dedicated himself to protecting the interests of his people. During his leadership, he became deeply involved in navigating complex relationships with government and industry—particularly oil companies ensuring that the community was never taken advantage of and always positioned for fair and respectful partnerships.
In addition to leading his own Nation, Albert has also managed the Lubicon Lake Band, further strengthening his experience in First Nation governance and administration.
Today, Albert continues to work directly with industry, providing road maintenance services and creating employment opportunities. He is also actively involved in ranching, which reinforces his belief in food security, self-sustainability, and planning for future generations.
